Original Expressionist Portrait Oil Painting, Abstract Face Art, 12x12 Canvas

About this piece

This one-of-a-kind oil painting is part of my more intuitive, soul-driven work. The portrait is built through bold color contrasts, simplified forms, and instinctive brushwork rather than academic precision.

Artist Statement This portrait emerged after a visit to Natchez, Mississippi—a place layered with beauty and a complicated, often dark historical legacy. The emotional residue of that experience shaped the palette and mark-making in this piece. The distortion and raw brushwork reflect tension beneath the surface—an exploration of presence, memory, and atmosphere rather than literal likeness. Painted intuitively in oils, the surface reveals textured strokes and layered color, allowing the figure to feel both grounded and unsettled.
